This is a set of 50 pewter medals entitled The Official History of Colonial America, produced by the Franklin Mint in 1976-77.

These medals depict scenes from the history of the original colonies from ?Founding of Jamestown - 1607?, ?The First Thanksgiving ? 1621?, ?The Boston Tea Party ? 1773? to ?The Declaration of Independence ? 1776? as well as 46 other historical moments in the birth of America.

This set was issued in limited edition by The Bicentennial Council of the Thirteen Original States in commemoration of America?s colonial heritage.

Each medal is 2? or 51mm and weighs approximately 2.1 Troy oz or 65 grams. The historical scenes are depicted in high relief on the front of the medal.
On the back is the seal of The Bicentennial Council of the Thirteen Original States as well as a listing of all the thirteen original states. On the edge of the coin is marked the words ?The Official History of Colonial America?, ?Fine Pewter?, The Franklin Mint seal and copyright mark, and the date ?77?. Since these medals have never been displayed, they are in pristine condition with no marks.

The 50 medals are inserted into the display case, which is designed to look like a leather-bound book with ten medals per page. Each page is separated by a piece of parchment paper.

This is a chance to buy a rare, nearly perfect condition set of The Official History of Colonial America. This was a monthly subscription collection so it is difficult to know how many intact sets exist.

It is quite interesting to review the important early moments of this country.  It is also a fine way to invest in collectibles with the guaranty of The Franklin Mint .

This 50 medal set for $500 is bargain priced for the astute collector and I say so with confidence because I have seen many singles of this edition sell for $25 each

Shipping for this heavy 13 pound medal set will be $19.00
